This role will be working evening shifts 4 days a week including both weekend evenings, shifts are either 4pm - 11pm or 2:30pm - 11pm, the successful candidate must be available for any day of the week and for these hours.

What you'll do:

• Be a visible and approachable security presence, creating a safe and welcoming campus for students, staff, and visitors.

• Deliver outstanding customer service, assisting with queries, directions, and upholding a safe campus environment.

• Monitor and control access to university buildings and secure areas in line with site procedures.

• Patrol campus regularly, remaining vigilant and maintaining a high level of alertness to ensure safety at all times.

• Respond quickly, calmly, and professionally to incidents or emergencies, using clear communication to de-escalate situations where needed.

• Prepare accurate and timely incident reports and site records in accordance with university and company guidelines.

• Collaborate effectively with university staff, students, and emergency services as needed.

• Work in central Tauranga and contribute positively to your community.

What you'll Bring:

• Strong communication and problem‑solving skills

• Customer service experience or similar (security experience is a bonus but not essential).

• A calm, professional manner under pressure

• Initiative and confidence working both independently and with a team

• Commitment to safe and compliant work practices

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, able to support people from diverse backgrounds.

• Strong written and verbal communication, suitable for both public-facing interactions and incident report writing.

• Understanding of access control procedures and the ability to follow detailed protocols.

• Ability to identify and respond to safety risks quickly and appropriately.

• Collaborative team member with a proactive and positive attitude.

• High levels of integrity and a commitment to confidentiality in all situations.

• Professional demeanour – reliable, punctual, and committed to upholding security and university standards.

• Alert, observant, and able to react decisively in fast-changing or pressured situations.

What You’ll Need:

• Eligibility to work in New Zealand and at least 18 years old.

• Hold, or be able to obtain, a current NZ Certificate of Approval (COA) Security License.

• Clean criminal conviction record.

• Flexible availability to work shifts on various evenings of the week, including availability for both weekend evenings.

• Full Clean Drivers License is a requirement
